Barry Windham, Lex Luger and Sting vs Tully Blanchard, Ric Flair and Arn Anderson

I think this match is the from the first episode of NWA Main Event. It is right after the first Clash of the Champions. Barry and Lex took the tag belts from Arn and Tully while Sting took Flair to a forty five minute draw.

Barry starts off with Tully. Barry hits a fantastic looking powerslam. I hate that a powerslam can't be a finisher. They look great and can come out of nowhere.

Every time Tully seemingly has the advantage the faces come back. He throws Barry out of the ring but when he gets out there Barry starts laying punches into him.

Barry gets Tully in a sleeper but Tully tags in Flair. Flair gets caught in the sleeper but Flair back suplexes Barry. He goes for an elbow but Barry moves. Flair gets a leg scissors but Barry turns it into a backslide. Flair kicks out and Barry knocks him to the floor.

Flair is pissed and ready to leave but Arn calms him down.

Now Arn is in the ring and Barry tags in Sting. You don't realize how much damage that knee injury did to Sting til you watch him before it happened. Dude is so effortlessly athletic. Leaping over a charging Anderson. Hits him with a slam then Flair goes up to the top to bad mouth Sting and he gets slammed to the mat.

One thing I want to point out here is how great Dusty Rhodes was at turning guys. He never did it haphazardly. Barry Windham would be joining the Horsemen soon but Dusty makes sure Sting is ready to move into the #2 young lion spot Barry has.

Now Tully is in and Sting tosses him around and hits a flying headscissors. Lex is tagged in. Tully selling for Lex is great. Like every punch Luger hits is killing him. Like he is on the verge of fainting. Lex hits a big suplex, whips Tully into the corner and charges. Tully catches Lex with a hard knee comes off the second rope with a ax handle but Lex catches him in a bear hug. Flair comes in and takes out Lex's knee.

Now the Horsemen take Luger to school. Arn comes in and DDT's Lex off an attempted backdrop. Love how the Horsemen make sure Luger is on their side of the ring. Arn drags him over and starts choking Lex on the second rope. Ref pulls Arn away and Tully takes over. Arn picks up Lex and Tully drops an ax handle off the second rope.

They throw him to the floor and work him over. Gets back in the ring and Arn hits a big Spinebuster. Its odd how that was never really Arn's finisher. First it was the irdbuster then the DDT. Arn gets this great bug eyes holy shit look as Luger starts over powering him. Arn pulls Lex to his corner and tags Tully who knees Lex in the kidney while he is tied up with Arn.

Tully hits Lex with a big neck breaker. This just great tag work from all three Horsemen. Luger breaks out of an Anderson sleeper only to get dropped by an Arn knee to the gut. Breaks my heart we never had Tully, Arn and Flair as NWA Six Man Tag champions.

Flair hits his stalling suplex. Luger jumps up and clotheslines Flair then collapses. That is how you do a no sell. It was Lex using all his power to get up.

Flair gets to Tully just as Lex tags Barry and the fans erupt. This audience is molten. Crockett might of been losing fans but you would not know it listening to the crowd.

Barry goes to town on the Horsemen. Hitting another powerslam on Tully. Which bugs me for some reason. But still awesome. Double coconut on Tully and Flair. Hits Arn with an elbow.

Barry goes for his super awesome flying lariat but Tully ducks and Barry hits the floor. It is breaking down as Arn and Lex are going at it. Barry turns Tully's attempted suplex into a roll up and Flair makes the save. Sting attacks Flair. Referee tries to break it up. While he is distracted JJ tosses Tully brass knucks and he clocks Barry for the win.

Great match.

Lex Luger vs Barry Windham 9 19 87

Lex Luger vs Barry Windham 9 19 87 by Moonshame

This is from September 19th 1987. Looking at old newsletters the TBS NWA show gets unfairly slagged. Not sure why because it is consistently the best wrestling show I keep up with. Clear defined characters. Nice roster depth with everyone getting some focus.

Now I hope everybody reading this is aware of how awesome Barry Windham is. So I'm going to focus on Lex Luger. He is United States champion and feuding with Dusty Rhodes. Starrcade is two months awayu and they are already building up this feud. The Luger version of the Horsemen is very underrated. Luger just grew so much as a member. As a personality, a work guy and on promos. Then they go and create an even better group with Barry Windham.

Okay to the match. Barry is Western States Champion and is looking to win the U.S Title. First part is Barry out wrestling Luger. Basic stuff just frustrating him. He can't match Lex in power so he uses finesse. Barry has great looking punches. Luger does a good job selling them and getting over his frustration. Not really cartoonish like Flair (which is great too but different)but more aloof. Like he can't believe anyone can be his equal.

At the five minute mark Luger avoids a dropkick and gets on offense. One thing I liked about the NWA/WCW is they always brought up the time limit whether or not the match went to a draw.

Luger gets Barry in a bearhug. I really prefer the bearhug as a wear down move to chinlocks. Since a lot of guys just tend to lay there resting instead of trying to break the hold. With bearhugs you need to work out of it which you see here. Barry tries going for punches but is in too much pain to lay them in. He gets out of it in this cool looking move. He manages to wedge his arms between Lex's and hits a belly to belly suplex which got a pop.

Barry gets on offense. Hitting the big flying dropkick on Luger. Before he can get three JJ Dillon (Lex Luger's manager) pulls Barry out of the ring. Barry slugs him which brings out fellow Horsemen Arn Anderson. I like this since it was a natural way to get your shmozz finish. Not a guy coming out just to intefere. Arn wanted to check on his manager.

Barry gets back in the ring and tries the lariat but Arn trips him. Lex drops the elbow but before he gets three nosy ass Earl Hebner buts in getting Lex DQed.

Post match Arn and Luger beat down Windham. Lex gets him in the torture rack. Until the Rock and Roll Express come in for the save.

Jeff Jarrett vs Sting Halloween Havoc 2000

Sting vs. Jeff Jarrett by Stinger1981

I'm not going to act like this match was not full of stupid stuff. Or that 2000 WCW's bad production did not hurt the better parts. But I'm sorry I just lost it for the Stinger Corps. The feud was set up with Jarrett mocking Sting and saying he had no heart. Dressing like Sting (and aside from the goatee is a dead ringer.) making fun of the old WCW Mastercard commercials Sting did.

So Sting is all fired up to lay a floggin on Jarrett's noggin. His initial burst of offense is interrupted by Sting's trademark howl. It's Sting circa 1989 who looks just like 89 Sting. Sting beats him up and hits the Scorpion Deathdrop. Jarrett tries to ambush Sting but Sting throws him over the railing. They fight thru the crowd asnd Sting hits a suplex.

Now Sting is attacked by 1990 Sting. Wearing the gear Sting wore at Halloween Havoc 90. This guy does not look that much like old Sting. He is pretty bad too. Sting takes him to the same spot on the ramp and hits the Scorpion Deathdrop.

Sting goes back to attacking Jarrett but the Wolfpac theme hits. Bringing out Wolfpac Sting. Madden gets really insufferable here on commentary. Anyway Sting really tears into Wolfpac Sting. Taking him back up the ramp. Which btw is really getting annoying. Hits the Scorpion Deathdrop. But Jarrett clips him with the bat.

Okay sequence with them exchanging sleepers. Sting locks on the Scorpion Deathlock. Now this is awesome. 97 Sting tears thru the ring and drags Sting under. They stay there for a minute til 97 Sting gets thrown out of the hole bloodied followed by the real Sting.

Back to Jarrett and the lights go out. Sting of Christmas yet to come falls from the ceiling. His wig falls off revealing an old man. Sting puts him thru a table.

He locks Double J in the Scorpion Deathlock. 97 Sting has recovered and kabongs him. Sting no sells and vanquishes him with a final Deathdrop. Only for Jarrett to get another guitar and kabong him for three. Yes that bugged me.

Mike Barton vs Perry Saturn 2003.

Perry Saturn vs. Mike Barton by Stinger1981

This kicked some ass. I have a soft spot for tholse old weekly TNA ppvs from 02/03 because of stuff like this. Mike Barton attacks Saturn in the locker room and they fight to the ring. The big story here are the Barton punches. He messes up Saturn's eye with a punch. He keeps working him over. Saturn gets in these hope spots. Like a T-Bone suplex and a springboard dropkick. But Barton goes back to the punches. One cool spot is a Barton stalling suplex. Holding Saturn in the air and his blood dripping on to Barton's torso.

Eventually Barton injures his fist. Giving Saturn the chance to lock on a flash submission. I have to wonder who booked this match. No sign of a run in and it actually told a story.

Lex Luger stuff

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Lex Luger by Stinger1981

Rey Mysterio vs Lex Luger Nitro January 1999

This was from right after the NWO Elite was formed. They took out the lWo and demanded they disband/ Rey had been forced to join by Eddy Guerrero. But he refused to stop wearing the LWO colors on principle. Refusing to be bullied. So he vgets targeted by Lex Luger.

Luger is really dismissive of Rey. Giving him a chance to surrender. Before Lex has to hurt him. Rey refuses and Lex sucker punches him. Nice dick move when the ref demands he hand over the mic he keeps switching hands before handing it to the time keeper.

Luger tosses around Rey at first. It's an interesting contrast. Because despite being a power wrestler, since 96 he has generally wrestled bigger guys. It has also been three years since he was last heel. So it seems like he was removing some rust.

Rey slips in offense and Lex has this surprised selling. Flailing around like he can't believe Rey can compete with him. He would get the advantage back with a cheapshot. Rey would do these desperate flurries of punches whenever Luger goes for his mask.

Kevin Nash comes to ringside. This leads to a run in finish when Rey is winning. But in this case it made Rey look stronger since Luger had to be saved.

Bill Goldberg vs. Lex Luger by Stinger1981

Lex Luger vs Goldberg October 99

oldberg got powerbombed by id earlier in the evening. Something happened to Elisibeth. Jeff Jarrett. This was the start of Russo's crap in WCW so hard to care. But this was a good tv main event.

Goldberg meets Luger in the aisle and beats him up around the ring. Luger does a nice job bumping and selling for Goldberg. He gets on offense and hits some nice looking clotheslines and running elbows. Being 99 WCW the run ins start.

Sting comes to ringside and takes out Goldberg with a baseball bat. Bret Hart makes the save. Nice bit where Bret swings the bat and Sting ducks causing it to shatter on the ring post.

Luger catches Bret from behind and puts him in the Human Torture Rack. Cool looking spot when Goldberg spears Luger while he has Bret in the hold.

Finish was a mess but nice work from Luger.

Predator vs Gallows

Predator vs Luke Gallows from the Inoki promotion.

Gallows comes out to St.Anger by Metallica. Which the first section of makes for a really good wrestling theme. Predator meets him in the aisle and they are off. I knew Gallows was good. But here not handcuffed by WWF lower card style he is great. Him and Predator fight all over the ringside area. Predator was in WWE as Sylvester Terkey. They gave him some MMA gimmick because Terkey did MMA in the past. He is better doing the Brody gimmick. He tears off a section of guard rail like it is nothing and hit Gallows.

Predator really looks like a monster. Not just some big guy. But a big scary monster you would hate to meet in a well lit area. Much less a dark alley.

He clotheslines Gallows over the guardrail using his chain.

Gallows throws great looking uppercuts and some good looking big boots and bicycle kicks.

Post match Predator chokes out Gallows with his chain so hopefully rematch.

Not wrestling or even Victator related.

http://bit.ly/dianeforVP Diane Mizota was the host of Filter on GR tv and was Fook Mi in Austin Powers. Along with a bunch of other hosting tv stuff. She is also a really cool sweet chick. She is trying to become Pop chips VP of pop. Which would get her lots of work and 50,000 in cash, ten thousand she intends to give to charity.

If you could stop by and vote for her she would appreciate it. Also I can safely say she is much better than the guys in front of her.
