Ric Flair vs Roddy Piper

Its really odd to see Flair wearing the WCW World title in 1991 WWF. Even odder hearing Gorilla Monsoon put him over as one of the greatest ever. Going over how he has beaten the best in the world. This is 91 WWF. To hear them acknowledge wrestling outside of the WWF is just jarring.

The match itself is kinda disappointing. Despite their long time friendship, Flair and Piper do not really click in the ring. It felt like they were wrestling two different matches. Its still decent enough and it is Flair essentially defending the WCW World title against Roddy Piper in 1991 WWF.

Bret Hart vs the Berzerker I was not expecting much even though I like Bret and John Nord. But this was actually a really good match. The match has Berzerker beating down Bret most of the match, with Bret unable to figure out how to defeat such an unorthodox wrestler. It is a good match. They could have done a tv feud with these two.

LOD vs the Natrual Disasters
One thing LOD never get credit for is their ability to sell. But man when they want to they are as good as anyone. Most of the match is the Disasters squashing Hawk in the corner. The Disasters actually hit their finisher on Animal and have the titles won. But then Quake hits the ref for no reason.

From a storyline stand point you get why Jimmy Hart ditched them for Money Inc. They tossed away the belts here then hey blew their chance at the Rumble winning by count out. Its a good enough tag match though.

This was a match from a Clash of the Champions. Hogan and Kamala have their match down pat so its pretty good. It also helps that Hogan actually sells for Kamala. Never doing a straight up no sell.

Freebirds & Badstreet vs Dustin Rhodes & Young Pistols Great American Bash 91

Really good six man tag from the 91 Bash. Few things I got from this match were

1. Dustin hoodes was pretty great.

2. Badstreet was a fucking awesome gimmick. Why the fuck did he ever go back to Brad Armstrong.

3. The Young Pistols were remarkably unover. They got zero reaction on everything.

Really good match. Everything was worked perfectly. But the Pistols were not over. The Freebirds were getting face reactions and Dustin was over as a face. But the Pistols got nothing. Which is interesting. Because as the Southern Boys they were popular. Its amazing how a subtle gimmick change can hurt ones popularity.

Anyway final part of the match is really awesome.

Mikey vs Kidman

We discussed this match and Mikeys WCW tenure last night. A few things about the match.
1. It was Mikey's debut in WCW. So hardly anybody knew who he was.
2. Mikey was working heel.
3. Its pretty clear this is the first time Mikey and Kidman wrestled.
So at first the match is a bit awkward. But its give a good chunk of time. So Mikey and Kidman figure out how to work with each other, while Mikey figures out how to be a heel. They play off the fact Mikey is a jobber. By having Kidman almost hitting the SSP a few times. WHICh the crowd gets geared up to see. But at the last second Miket avoids it. By the end the fans are buying Mikey's near falls. Because he has survived so much already.
Really developed into a good match.

Shane Douglas vs Mikey Whipwreck Hrdcore Heaven 96

This match came about from when Shane trashed Mikey a few shows back. Its worked with Shane treating Mikey like a jobber. Which makes sense, with Shane was in the WWF when Mikey won the World title.
Mikey out wrestles for the start of the match. So Shane has to start taking cheapshots to get the advantage. So Mikey starts doing high risk stuff to take it to Douglas. The match is back n forth after that. With Shane getting the win with he belly to belly. Really good and underrated match.

In paticular I would reccomend the two matches with Justin Credible. The one from Buffalo is really good. I know Justin gets shit on, but he is fantasic at bumping.

Unteresting side fact, Scott Hall was the agent for the ppv match with Justin and Mikey. Justin and Mikey called him, and he laid out the match for them.

Also the Sabu match is first rate. These guys had incredible chemistry.

Both of these matches are way better than I remembered. These two have great chemistry working together. You can tell in the Vengence match that Ross really liked Sabu. He puts him over huge. Lawler was useless, all he did was distract from the match.
Which is an even bigger problem in the first match with Lawler, Styles and Taz bickering. JR tries to take control, but eventually says fuck it. But both of these matches are really really good.

Good match which prompted one of Vince's trademark changes of heart. Where he decides Roadkill is too good to be an ECW jobber and too good for the Roadkill gimmick. So he sends him to OVW to be repackaged. I can only assume Vince saw a heroic one legged wrestler on the news and forgot Roadkill.

Really good tag team title match, between Scorpio & Bagwell vs Austin & Pillman. Scorp and Bagwell were a pretty good team.
