Saw the TV version of this last night on History of ECW. Really enjoyed it. There was a cut or two so I decided to check out the Fancam version.

First thing is Sabu never got credit for adjusting his character in 97 to be more heelish while staying true to Sabu. Made himself slightly less manic and crazy. More sneaky and weasely while still coming across as vicious and sadistic.

First section is Sabu taking Mikey down to the mat and out wrestling him. When Mikey starts out wrestling Sabu, the chair gets introduced. Which reminded me of Tully Blanchard's philosophy of being a heel. The heel tries to win the match fairly and resorts to cheating once he realizes he is outmatched.

Sabu takes advantage with the chair. Anytime Mikey has a comeback, Sabu catches him with a flying move.

Sabu sets the table up and Mikey nails him with a chair. Sabu really gets building up to the big spot. So when someone goes thru the table it is a big deal.


Mikey goes on a big come back and hits some great looking spots. Getting closer and closer to pinning Sabu. Mikey misses a twisting senton. Sabu goes back on offense and survives the Triple Jump Moonsault. Which is a pretty big deal as it has been Sabu's big finisher since he returned in 95. Only guys like Taz or RVD have kicked out of it.

So Sabu goes to the top and Mike follows and the video cuts to a second later with ECW chants and RVD and Mikey laying on the debris of a table. What happened was RVD ran in and Mikey dove off the top rope on top of RVD, sending them both tru a table. I promise I'll include the TV version once its available.

Okay Sabu is still on the top. Mikey is back up and Sabu moonsault presses him from the turnbuckle.

Sabu returns to the ring and Mikey follows only RVD has his ankle, and he is caught between the ropes. Sabu does a lionsault which drives his shin into Mikey's head knocking him out.

This was very effective at

1. Making Sabu and RVD heels.

2. Keeping Sabu strong for his feud with Sandman.

3. Making Mikey look strong as he comes very close to actually pinning Sabu.
