6. Rob Van Dam vs Taz January 18th 1998
Doing something differen today with two matches. Rob Van Dam comes thru the curtain minus Fonzie. So he is trying to whistl with his fingers. RVD tries to attack Taz while the referee is searching his boot. Taz moves and we are off. Taz beats down RVD and hits that flipping German suplex he does.

RVD retreats to the floor as Taz mocks him. Taz follows him and they are in the audience fighting. Watching ECW and there are two things I grew to really appreciate.

1. Someone successfully clotheslining somebody over the top rope/guard rail. Never realized how many guys mess this up. But in ECW it is like 10/90 sucess rate.

2. Brawling thru the crowd. Most guys just grab some hair/scalp and pull each other occasionally doing punches.

Taz here is really good at it. Occasionally dragging but here they are actually fighting their way thru he audience. Punching, slamming into walls. A small thing that is the difference between a bad ECW match and a good one.

RVD and Taz are a perfect fit for each other. Taz likes to throw suplexes and absorb strikes. RVD likes to bump of of suplexes and kick guys in the mush. They end up in the stands. They are fighting on the stairs.

Miss part of the match because Gabe has to run around to get back to ringside. RVD tags Taz climbing over the guardrail and hits a flipping senton off the rails. They land in a pile of chairs which helps make it look more reckless. Another thing the helps brawling around ringside is not seeing a sea of yellow security shirts surrounding the wrestlers.

Back in the ring and a chair has come into play. Taz charges but RBD boots him in the mouth. Taz charges again and RVD flips over him and dropkicks him in the face. RVD tries the running skateboard chair dropkick but Taz moves.

Neat sequence of Taz whipping RVD charging him RVD leap frogging and Taz trying for the Tazmission. RVD fights out of it. One goo ECW thing is you rarely ever see the stupid WWF kick in the groin Tazmision escape. I swear every fucking week.

Taz locks on the second try and this brings out Sabu.
RVD is trying to fight out of it and Sabu just legdrops both of them. RVD and Sabu are beating down Taz. This brings out Bam Bam Bigelow which leads us to.

7. Sabu vs Bam Bam Bigelow

Sabu vs Bam Bam Bigelow is one of my ECW holy grails. Always getting small taste like a short World title match, or tag matches or an awesome Triple Threat vs Taz. Which btw I wish WWE would release as a shortie on Classics on Demand. This was actually a really good show. But the main reason I got it was Sabu vs Bam Bam.

So Bam Bam comes in and attacks Sabu and RVD to save Taz. But Taz is not grateful and starts cussing Bam Bam. I liked to think Bam Bam decided to rejoin the Triple Threat at the last minute because Taz is an asshole and Shane was a good friend before Bam Bam betrayed him.

Lockerroom goons pull Taz out of the ring while Sabu and RVD jump Bigelow. Sabi chunks a chair at Bam Bam. Sabu keep kicking and opunching til he locks on a sorta camel clutch. One great thing about Bam Bam is he can sell for guys much smaller yet not have hi credibility hurt.

Sabu goes to whip Bam Bam and gets clotheslines and Bam Bam is back in control. He teases throwing abu into the crowd. But he just press slams him in the ring. We get the basic story of the match. Everytime Bam Bam has abu on the ropes RVD gets involved and he can't fight them both off. It also pushes the story of Bam Bam needing a partner.

Bam Bam starts fighting RVD and Sabu hits his Air Sabu flying press to the floor. Bam Bam fights off Sabu and RVD tags him with a kick. I liked how it looked because it looked out of control. Like RVD is swinging blind. Spaking of out of control Sabu dives off the stage, Bam Bam catches him and smashes him into it. Sabu almost overshot Bam Bam and landed in the ring. That was some distance.

Bam bam kicks RVD for good measure. RVD grabs Bigelow's leg comin in. Sabu hits a dropkick into his knee.

On the floor Bigelow and RVD start brawling and making thei way to the table. Which again I really appreciate. Sabu catches Bam Bam with a baseball slie. Allowing RVD to hold him OVER the taBLE and Sabu hits his "no brakes no brakes!!!"flying leg drop. Wipes out RVD too. Good thing about this is with their relationship its a bonus for abu to hurt RVD.

They do a good job selling the spot with it taking a bit for them to recover while RVD is still out.

Bck in the ring Bam bam misses an avalanche, Sabu attempts Air Sabu in the corner which Bam Bam counters into a German suplex. Followed by Bam Bam hitting a quality splash for two. If you ever see a bad fat guy splash you really appreciate the good ones.

RVD springbord into the ring for the save but Bigelow moves. Bam Bam hits him with Greetings from Asbury Park. Now Sabu gets a taste. But here comes the riple Threat.

Bam Bam wips out Candido and Storm. But Douglas kicks him in the nuts allowing them to hit a double suplex.

Sabu and RVD have recovered and attempt Rolling thunder. They beat up Bam Bam some more and hit it again for three.

They keep beating on him til Taz makes the save. Then Taz attacks Bam Bam. Boy I do not blame Bam Bam for turning on that jerk.
